Terms of use
By using Trip Split you agree to these terms. They are written to be read.
What Trip Split is
A shared ledger for one trip. People on the trip record what they paid, and Trip Split works out balances and a short list of transfers. It does not move money or connect to your bank. People settle up between themselves.
Pricing
Adding expenses by hand and settling up are free. Unlocking a trip costs a one-time $10 payment. One person pays and the whole trip gets unlimited quick notes, the full bill with a share link, CSV export, and permission to change the trip's end date after it has started. There is no subscription. Payments are handled by Stripe. If something is wrong with a payment, contact us. A trip whose payment is fully refunded goes back to the free plan.
Your trip, your group
- Everyone in a trip is trusted with it: any member can add and edit expenses, including ones that show another person as the payer. Only invite people you trust.
- The invite code lets people join while the invite is open (from the day the trip is made until 31 days after its last day). Share it only with the people on your trip.
- Your recovery code is the only way to get back into your name on a new phone, apart from a one-time code from the person who made the trip. Keep it safe. We cannot recover it for you.
- One person can use up to three phones on a trip.
Reading quick notes
Quick notes are turned into a draft by a language model. Drafts can be wrong. Nothing is added until you confirm it, and you are responsible for checking amounts, currencies and who shared what. Free trips include a limited number of quick notes; unlocking removes the limit.
Accuracy
We take care that the arithmetic is right, but Trip Split is provided "as is". Exchange rates are daily reference rates and are marked as estimates when they are used. Check the totals before you pay anyone. We are not responsible for money lost because of a mistake in the data entered or in a draft you confirmed.
How long data is kept
Free trips are deleted two years after they end; paid trips are kept until you ask us to delete them. After a trip's last day plus 31 days it becomes read-only. Details are on the data retention page. Save the bill if you need it for longer than that.
What you must not do
Do not use Trip Split to break the law, to harass anyone, to try to get into trips that are not yours, to guess codes, or to overload the service.
Our responsibility
We do our best to keep Trip Split running but cannot promise it will always be available. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for a trip is limited to the amount paid for it. Nothing here limits rights you have by law that cannot be limited.
Changes and ending
We may update these terms or the service; if a change matters we will say so in the app. We may stop a trip or account that breaks these terms. If we ever stop the service, we will give notice and a way to save your bills first.
